january 25, 2010

after working an 11 hour day, most of the time staring at a computer screen, the last thing i want to do is come home, turn on my own computer, and write. but because i started this blog with the intention of writing on a weekly basis, and it's January 25th and I have written one entry to date, AND i finally have something i want to export from my head, i pushed the power button.

it's about friends. i've been contemplating the relationships i have with people lately, and i've come to the conclusion that it's all about quality and not quantity. i'd much rather cultivate a small garden of good friends that i know i can always count on in times of need than have a vast field of shitty corn that's definitely NOT peaches 'n' cream. you know, the chewy kind that just ends up getting caught in your teeth more often than not.

sure, i know it's unfair to compare good friends to out of season vegetables that may or may not have been overcooked, but i think it illustrates the point.

growing up i seemed to have more friends of the opposite sex (male, to be specific). only recently have i noticed that now, in this new era of myself, that my little garden is made up predominantly of girl-flowers. curious, indeed… so i thought about that too. i suppose in my teenage-dom and young adulthood i was always looking for something outside of myself….even learning. Another perspective maybe…perhaps a chance to stand out rather than appreciate similarities.

in the past few years i've been turning inward for answers. digging within myself and finding comfort and wisdom in relation. and it's come to light that John Gray was right all along - men and women just might be from two different planets, so to speak, so it actually makes perfect sense that I surround myself with a cluster of awesome females.

men, i'm sure, will continue to remain like sexy magic tricks. so to my nucleus of ladies out there:
thank you. each one of you is incredible and i feel lucky to have a place in your life.

sisters whaaaat!

okay try number two --

very true. friendship and relationships with the opposite sex are both perplexing. Always.
